Golden Axe 3 is the third game in Sega’s beloved sword battling beat ’em up video game series. It’s style is very much like the original game from 1989, but features a few new, slightly more detailed character sprites than its predecessors.
Where was Golden Axe 3 released?
Golden Axe 3 was released on the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive two years after the sequel to the first game, Golden Axe 2. The game was intended to be a Japan exclusive release, but would later release in North America via the Sega Channel online in 1995.
Does it improve upon the first two games?
It includes four characters to choose from instead of typical selection of 3. Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe 2 has lost his spot in the game and has been replaced by new characters, which might be a disappointment to some. The graphics have improved slightly and the animation is much better, with nice fluid character movements.
How does the gameplay compare to the first two games?
The game mechanics are very similar to the first two Golden Axe games. Although this time around, you get plenty of new attack moves to experiment with.
Your best bet is to find a way to play the game for yourself and decide if it’s a truly worthy entry in the classic series.
