Mike Flanagan, the creator of “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass” TV Series, recently shared his pitch for a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie in a chat with the Script Apart podcast. We have included a piece of the transcript for you within this article.
While speaking with the folks of the show, Flanagan dropped the following comments and shared his frustrations of not being able to get hold of the right people to get them to take a look at his pitch for a new Elm Street movie:
“One of the [franchises] on my list forever has been A Nightmare on Elm Street. Boy, that would be fun [laughs]. I have a whole take for it that I worked out a couple of years ago and my understanding is the rights situation for that title is so fraught, no one knows who controls it really, and no one knows who to pitch. So, I keep saying to my agents, ‘Send me in on Nightmare on Elm Street’ and they’re like, ‘We’d love to, [but] we have no idea who you should talk to.’ And I’ve talked to — I spent almost a year of my life with [A Nightmare on Elm Street star] Heather Langenkamp, and we would talk about it. It’s like, nobody knows what to do.”
With original Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund out of the picture, who would be suitable choices in the role of the Springwood slasher villain in a new Elm Street prequel or sequel movie? I don’t think anybody could ever fill Englund’s boots, but I would love to see someone step up and give it their best shot.
If you could hand-pick the person to play the part of Freddy Krueger, who would you choose and why? I know Kevin Bacon’s name has come up a couple of times, but does anyone actually believe he is the man for the role? I want to hear what you have to say about it in the Dark Nation community comments below.
